WE DID IT!
With the help of all of you awesome people out there in the cycling community, both local and nationwide, we were able to build Morgan a brand new bike.
We posted about Morgan’s accident back in June, and the donations were immediate. We were getting calls from all over, it was incredible. We raised a total of $1,113.31 and Mike Stanley of Niner Bikes donated a full on carbon BH cyclocross bike.
So, Morgan doesn’t race, and the original bike we built for her, the one that’s STILL sitting in an evidence room somewhere, was a commuter bike. Dominic wanted to build her something awesome and one of a kind, so he went ahead and pulled the SRAM Force groupo off the BH carbon bike and built her a custom Surly Straggler.
I worked with Kate from Surly from the get go, she was able to get us a discounted frame set and helped us spread the word. Ya’ll know, Surly rocks.
Every single detail of this bike was thought out, from the silver fenders to the matching silver braided cabling. We installed a Surly rack, and donated a pair of Ortlieb panniers and BOOM! Here it is.
We sold the carbon BH frame for $500 and when Morgan came to pick her bike up this past week, not only did she get a bike, but she got a check for $500. BONUS!
We rode around though the neighborhood together and I helped her get used to the SRAM double tap shifting. She was so totally stoked to be back on a bike, and the fit was perfect.
It will be a long time before her case is settled in court. Her medical bills are piling up but she is smiling and happy and back to work and school. She has overcome a huge incident in her life, it could have been so much worse. Luckily for Morgan, she has a TON of people who love her and surround her with positivity. Her smile fills the room with such awesome energy, I am so very glad we were able to help her out.
Thanks to everyone who helped us help Morgan. Ya’ll RULE.
